Things for Teachers
It's not the whiteboard that's the problem ⇢

One viewpoint on interactive whiteboards being seen as expensive chalkboards. What are your thoughts?

Notes

  1. texasfirstyearteacher said: The best interactive whiteboard advice I’ve heard: “The teacher should be the star of the show, the whiteboard should be the backup dancer.”
  2. balancosembanco answered: We don’t need any board. Let them to be expensive or what. If we reduce the number of students on each class room we can have real stuff!!!
  3. adoraleann answered: I think interactive whiteboards are great. Chalkboards are outdated.
  4. dreamingbecauseican answered: I think the interactive whiteboard is brilliant, but, if you’re not a good teacher, all the latest technology is not going to make you better
  5. socialchildren answered: If it’s used traditionally, then it’s an energy consuming whiteboard. But software like Mathematica provides a more interactive experience.
  6. teachplaysing answered: I used to think that, but then I saw how they could be used - there’s so many more useful interactions with students you can use them for.
  7. teacher-girl answered: I think the problem is many teachers who DON’T recieve training are intimidated & may be less willing to “teach” themselves how to use it.
  8. pablophonic answered: In my field observation, I saw one teacher who only used her SMART board as an overhead projector. I cried a little.
  9. sweetenthesword answered: I’ve found that there’s nothing I couldn’t do just as well with a digital projector connected to a laptop and a lo-tech whiteboard.

About

Who I am: A third year high school history teacher at an urban(ish) high school in New Jersey.

What I blog about: Stuff related to education I like, and stuff I hope can help other teachers out. Technology, deals on supplies, helpful books. My focus lately is on educational technology & related resources. Occasionally, I also post things related to education reform. Because I post articles that I feel will be of interest to teachers with varying views, the political-related posts made here do not necessarily reflect my beliefs or opinions, nor do they reflect the beliefs of my employer.

What I like learning & reading about: Other teacher's opinions about and experiences with teaching & education. How I can enrich my classroom and reach out to my students. If you write about this stuff, let me know, because I probably want to read it.

What you should submit: Anything that could help a teacher.
